The Amazing Strawberry & The Curious Chick! 🍓🐣
Did you know that strawberries aren’t actually berries? They’re considered ‘aggregate accessory fruits’! This means the fleshy part we love to eat develops from the part of the flower that holds the seeds, not from the ovary. The tiny ‘seeds’ on the outside are actually the real fruits, called achenes! Each achene contains one seed. So, technically, a strawberry has no seeds *inside* it, but hundreds on the *outside*! Mind blown, right? 🤯
Our fluffy friend here seems to have discovered the biggest strawberry in the patch! Chicks are baby chickens, and they are born with a coat of soft downy feathers, just like the one in this picture. This down is super warm and keeps them cozy. They can walk and peck for food shortly after hatching! 🏃♀️💨 They often eat seeds, grains, and small insects. But for this little guy, a giant strawberry looks like the tastiest treat ever! Imagine if you could taste this strawberry – what flavor would it be? Maybe strawberry-banana, or perhaps a sour cherry surprise? 🤔
And look at that pretty daisy! 🌼 Daisies are known for their cheerful appearance and their name comes from the Old English ‘dæges ēage’, meaning ‘day’s eye’. This is because the daisy petals close up at night and open again in the morning light. So, they literally greet the day! They are often a symbol of new beginnings and innocence, which perfectly suits our little chick starting its day with a tasty find. This whole scene is like a little piece of nature’s magic, all ready for you to add your own special touch with colors. What colors will you choose for the grass and the daisy petals? Will the sky in the background be blue or purple? Let your creativity shine in this delightful color panel!
Fun Factoid!
A group of chicks is called a ‘brood’. Isn’t that a cute name for a family of little fluffballs? 🐥🐥🐥
