A black and white drawing of a kangaroo with a joey in its pouch, ready for a color panel adventure.

Meet the Marsupial Marvels! 🦘

Look at this adorable kangaroo and her joey! Kangaroos are amazing animals that live in Australia, a big island country far, far away. Did you know that kangaroos can jump really, really high? They use their strong legs and big tails to balance as they leap through the tall grass. It’s like they have built-in springs!

This little joey is super lucky! It gets to ride around in its mom’s pouch. The pouch is like a cozy, warm pocket that the mother kangaroo uses to carry and protect her baby. It’s the safest place for a joey to be, especially when mom needs to hop quickly to find yummy grass to eat. This joey looks so happy to be peeking out and seeing the world!

Kangaroos are herbivores, which means they love to munch on plants, grasses, and leaves. They are most active during the cooler parts of the day, like early morning and late afternoon, to avoid the hot sun. Sometimes, kangaroos can be seen in groups called mobs, and they even have their own way of communicating with each other using different sounds and body movements!

Fun Factoid! ✨

Baby kangaroos are called joeys, and when they are born, they are tiny – about the size of a jelly bean! They are born blind and hairless and have to crawl all the way from the birth canal to the pouch all by themselves. Once they are in the pouch, they latch onto a teat and grow and grow until they are ready to explore the world outside, just like the one in our picture!
