Did you know that whales are the biggest animals on Earth? 🤯 The blue whale can grow as long as three school buses and weigh as much as a herd of elephants! Even though they are so huge, most whales are super gentle giants. This happy whale in our color panel is a perfect example! It looks like it’s having a wonderful time swimming with its little fishy pals.
These little fish, called a school, often swim together for safety. It’s like a big, finned parade! 🐠🐠🐠 Imagine all the different colors you could make these fish! Our smiling whale has something called throat grooves. These aren’t wrinkles, but stretchy folds under its chin that help it eat! When a whale finds a big meal, it can expand its throat to swallow a lot of water and food at once. Then, it pushes the water out through its baleen (like a giant filter) and swallows the tiny creatures inside. Pretty neat, right?
